Another Reason

But on a different topic. I read Kristin Kathryn Rusch’s blog regularly, and today it really caught my attention. She takes on why self-publish? and handles that topic masterfully, based on her wide experience. I am still a newbie to this, but she sums up why I’ve chosen the arguably more difficult path.

I am in this for the long run, but for what advance I might get from a publisher. I would still have to do much of the work I’m doing now, as I promote, market, and tweak my product to be the best it can. I ran a business for over a decade, so that isn’t as foreign to me as it would be to some writers. You, my readers, are my customers, and it really matters to me that I give you value for your money.

Here is what Kristine Kathryn Rusch has to say:

“Writers provide content (product) to Bookstores

Bookstores distribute that content to Readers

Instead of the traditional business model:

Writers provide content (product) to Publishers.

Publishers distribute that content to Distributors.

Distributors distribute books to Bookstores.

Bookstores distribute that content to Readers.”
