Limenitis arthemis

You can find more information about this beautiful Red Spotted Purple butterfly here, and it is a mimic of the toxic Pipevine Swallowtail, Battus philenor.

I can tell you that the iridescent blues on the wings have to be seen to be truly appreciated.

Enjoy!

  1. I haven’t seen those. We had a dearth of butterfly this year. No lunar moths, no monarchs and very little else except the yellow ones, monarch size. I forget the name.

    1. I think you mean a Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly. Like this one: http://cedarlili.deviantart.com/art/Tiger-Swallowtail-549251427

And the winters have been severe which will impact the population for a couple of years.

      1. That’s the one. Lots of them about.

So, you aren’t buying the butterfly apocalypse?
