That’s what I’ve been doing for my daily art recently. I want to take the time to pencil, use references, then carefully ink, but I don’t have it. I don’t have the time, I don’t have the coordination, and I don’t have the inclination. Right now? Rough and ready sketches. Cartoons, really.
I can cartoon. I can convey in a few scratches of the pen what I want to say with the image. But that’s about it, right now. It’s sheer emotion, just a grab at what I want to put on the paper. I want to do better. Maybe someday, when life is a little emptier, I can take the time to learn, and dive deeper, and pull more out onto the surface with inks and paints and a little graphite to tenuously trace out the beginnings. Instead of splashing down the ink with a brush, hasty and permanent. You can’t erase this. You have to own it, and move on.

I’ve got one shoe on, and podcasts downloading for work. I’m perched on the drafting stool typing away like mad, and trying to think of the beautiful words to convey what I’m trying to say.

Really fun. Thanks for sharing. Whimsical isn’t quite the word because there’s a little more weight to these (e.g., the woman with the baby and the axe who looks ready to either cut down some trees or defend the hearth), but really fun.
What amazes me is that you have no idea how wonderful these are.
