I have to wonder! He references JK Rowling a lot in this book, and seems unaware that she drew heavily from sources popular when she was a child, rather than being strikingly original herself. His other references tend heavily towards classics and philosophy. So I wonder if instead, he and Heinlein are drawing from the same well.

If Peterson is drawing from JKR because she is accessible to younger folks that is great. If she is the height of his fiction reading I could lose a lot of respect

No, it’s definitely because as he puts it, everyone at least is aware of Harry Potter. So that gives him a foundation young people can find relatable.
