About Cedar

Cedar Sanderson is an author, artist, graphic designer, and scientist whose eclectic passions fuel a wide-ranging creative output.
With a career that began in the Alaskan bush—where she grew up without television and learned to read at age four—Cedar has pursued an extraordinary variety of roles: balloon twister, face painter, children’s librarian, cosmetic chemist, technical writer, and more. A born researcher with interests in history, infectious disease, food anthropology, and human behavior, she later earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Forensic Science and Investigation, with minors in Chemistry and Molecular Biology.
As a writer, Cedar crafts engaging fiction across urban fantasy, cozy supernatural mysteries, science fiction, and more. Her popular series include Pixie for Hire (starting with Pixie Noir), along with standalone novels, short stories, and contributions to anthologies. She’s also edited anthologies and illustrated coloring books, blending whimsy with thoughtful narratives that often explore the intersection of the mundane and the extraordinary. Her work has earned recognition, including a Hugo Award nomination.
Cedar is equally dedicated to the visual arts, creating book covers, illustrations, and designs that reflect her love for both the scientific and the fantastical—from traditional sumi-e painting to digital creations.
A mother of four, she channels her perennially inquisitive nature into storytelling, art, and exploration. She shares her thoughts and ongoing projects through her Substack (Cedar’s Substack), her blog-linked website at cedarwrites.com, and various online platforms.
Professionally curious and endlessly creative, Cedar invites readers and viewers into worlds shaped by her diverse experiences and boundless imagination.
