Toast will dash past my husband’s feet as soon as he opens the front door, sprinting for the yard and the freedom to sniff all the sniffs. He will usually patiently retrieve her, deposit her safely indoors, and have his porch time in peace. I found out recently that sometimes he’ll take her into the screened porch with him. She pouts, because she can smell but not explore.
