This last period of my life has been a rollercoaster. From being told just about six weeks ago to anticipate being unemployed in a month with my company closing, to landing a new job yesterday. You may have heard the ‘bing!’ of my being told I should feel free to move about the country. That was me signing the offer for a 100% remote work from home position, making decent money.
I’m sad to leave behind the job I really loved. Thing is, I hadn’t yet gotten enough experience at it to parlay into the field I wanted to stay in. My reach had exceeded my grasp. This isn’t a bad thing. I’ve calibrated, now, what’s in my wheelhouse. It’s not what I wanted, but… it’s stable. Stability is a good thing. Furthermore, we’re no longer bound to the city by a commute radius.
We are also still on the hunt for a home. We’d put in an offer on a house, and the seller kept holding up paperwork hoops, which I and the team working with me obediently jumped through… for a while. Finally, we reached a point where the First Reader and I talked about it, and decided that yeah, we could go through that hoop. It would cost more. But it could be done. However, on the other side? How many more hoops? We turned and walked away. The seller can amuse himself putting on his circus games with a different buyer. There are other houses – likely better ones, or at least ones that didn’t need that much work done on them – and we will find one. We have all the time in the world to do it, now.
I find it’s like a huge weight is lifted off me. Life isn’t all peaches and cream and roses. I know that. But the sheer uncertainty of trembling on the brink of the unknown is alleviated, even if it is illusory. It’s been an up and down ride and I’m getting off.
It’s a new day, and a new horizon, and the sky is clear. I’m ready for this adventure.
