Home and New Year

I’m back up and running. Well, jogging along. I suppose. Travel takes it out of me, and this trip was a great visit, but I got home exhausted. After falling asleep yesterday afternoon and sleeping for twelve hours straight, I feel human again today. Which is good, because I have a ton of stuff that needs to be done. It’s a new year, new starts, and I’m behind by almost a week already. No, that’s not me beating myself up, I’m basically going to stick a pin in today (which I could do, having a bunch of little map pins, but more likely it will be a sticker) and start from here.

Firstly, I need to corral and begin reading the stories for But Not Broken, the second PTSD anthology. I think, gut feel for what’s come into my email, that we’ll have enough to go on with, and I know there are some great stories in the bunch. If you sent me a story, expect to get an email in the next few days one way or the other. I don’t ghost authors, so if you don’t see an email, please do ping me.

Secondly, I’ve got some graphic design work for clients to wrap up. Once that’s done, I don’t have anything new in the pipeline for a while, so I can take a breath on that front. I think. At least for a week or two! I do need to finish the illustrations for the fourth Lawdog collaboration, and get that ready for publishing, hopefully by the end of the month. I am planning to publish something every month this year, and if the Squeaks Saga comes out in January, But Not Broken in Feb, that gives me some time to get a full fiction piece written and ready for March.

Beginning today, I will be writing every day. This month, I’ll be going for the daily goal, not worrying about wordcount. Yesterday, for instance, I did 250 words for the prompt snip. Today… we shall see. In the long run I’d like to say I’ll get up to a thousand words a day, but I don’t know if that’s sustainable. Not when I’m fighting a story that doesn’t want to come out. I do know that I want to write. I don’t want to stop writing. And there are bills, planned and unexpected. Either I write, or I take on a second job. I would Much prefer to make writing pay rather than have to go out of the house and be tired all the time.

Similarly, I’ll be trying to keep up the blog. I don’t really want to do a newsletter, so if you want to see what’s coming, you’ll have to come here. I know, I know, how old-fashioned of me.

See you soon…

Rest, water. You are not behind – jump in where you are. Sounds like you got it all down pat!

I’ve had a really hard time getting the wheels grinding, even though I knew what I wanted to have happen this year, and I was reasonable about it. (Been watching HeartBreathings YT channel, one of the things she says about goal setting is “Make your goals for the person you are today. Don’t expect to be someone completely new on day one.” I think my internal child is sulking about something, and that’s holding me back this year, so far (that and 2 snow days for hubby, meant he was home, so I have a different flow on those days).

Good job, good luck and go get’em!

  2. Best wishes on the anthology. Yesterday I finally got one more scene on my second effort to write a story for it (first one decided it was going to be a novella, and there was no way to trim it down without butchering it), but I still don’t have even a glimmering of how to get to an ending.

With my luck, everything else will fall together about two days after you’ve announced the lineup, and the story will practically write itself — after it no longer matters. (My muse is a gruff little badger, and cooperates when he feels like it)

    1. I hear you on the muse. Mine does that from time to time! If it comes together, ping me?

      1. Will do. Even if you can’t fit it in at the last minute, maybe it can be the nucleus of a future anthology project.
