Hi! Welcome to the pattern! This is the pattern I use to make big and small Cutethulus. I use all different types of yarn and hooks to make this and you can experiment. I will put what I find most comfortable in the materials. I find that putting a stitch counter in the first stitch of the round helps me keep track.

Materials:

  • Lilly sugar and cream yarn You can find it at any Walmart for fairly cheap and it comes in a lot of different colors
  • H/8 – 5mm crochet hook
  • 12 mm Safety eyes
  • Yarn needle
  • Polyfill stuffing
  • Stitch counter (Optional)

Stitch abbreviations:

Sc = Single crochet

Inc = Increase

Dec = Decrease

Head:

Rnd 1. Magic ring 6 sc (6)

Rnd 2. (Inc) around (12)

Rnd 3. (Sc, inc) around (18)

Rnd 4. (Sc 2, inc) around (24)

Rnd 5. (Sc 3, inc) around (30)

Rnd 6. (Sc 4, inc) around (36)

Rnd 7. (Sc 5, inc) around (42)

Rnd 8.(Sc 6, inc) around (48)

Rnd 9-12. Sc around (48)

Rnd 13. (Sc 2, dec) around (36)

Rnd 14. Sc around (36)

Rnd 15. (Sc, dec) around (24)

Rnd 16-18. Sc around (24)

Rnd 19. A. Sc in the first 6 stitches.

               B. In the front loop of the next stitch, Sc then chain 17. Skip the first stitch of the chain, then single crochet up the chain until you have 16 SC, creating your first tentacle.

               C. Repeat 19.B. 11 more times then repeat 19.A.

Rnd 20. In the back loops, (Sc 2, dec) around (18)

Rnd 21.Sc around (18)

Once you finish Rnd 21 slip stitch in the first Sc of the round and cut the yarn and weave in the end. Place safety eyes, I use 12 mm for the standard sized Cthulu (Tinythulu get’s the smallest eyes I have). Place the eyes between the 15th and 16th rows. I generally put seven stitches in between the eyes, but do what you think is cutest! Then fill the head with Polyfill

Body:

Sidenote: I prefer to stuff at the end after I attach the arms but you can stuff as you go.

You are going to make two legs:

Rnd 1. Magic ring 6 sc (6)

Rnd 2. (Inc) around (12)

Rnd 3. (Sc 3, Inc) around (15)

Rnd 4-8. Sc around (15)

Once you finish the first one cut the yarn and set aside then make the second leDON’T CUT THE YARN

Rnd 9. To join the legs take the first leg and put your crochet hook through the first stitch and Sc (place marker here if you’re using stitch markers.) Then Sc around the first leg and then the second leg. There will be a small hole in between the legs you will need to sew that shut. (30)

Rnd 10-11. Sc around (30)

Rnd 12. (Sc 8, dec) around (27)

Rnd 13-14. Sc around (27)

Rnd 15. (Sc 7, dec) Around (24)

Rnd 16-17. Sc around (24)

Rnd 18. (Sc 6, dec) around (21)

Rnd 19-20. Sc around (21)

Rnd 21. (Sc 5, dec) around (18)

Rnd 20. Sc around

Once you finish Rnd 20 slip stitch in the first stitch, cut the yarn and weave the end in.

Arms(make 2):

Rnd 1. Magic ring 6 sc (6)

Rnd 2. Inc around (12)

Rnd 3-4. Sc around (12)

Rnd 5. (Sc 2, dec) Around (9)

Rnd 6-8. Sc around (9)

Once you finish Rnd 8 slip stitch in the first stitch, cut the yarn and weave the end in. Fill with polyfill.

Assembly:

Attach the arms where you find reasonable by sewing them to the body. If you haven’t yet, sew the hole between the legs shut. Fill the body with polyfill if you haven’t yet then sew the body and head together. I normally take a yarn needle and pull yarn through each stitch on each side since they both end with 18 stitches.

And now you’re done!! Feel free to show off your Cthulu!

      1. I’ll have to save up for a bit then; I’m in Australia and the exchange rate is not really nice to me right now. Later in the year. =D
