Journals

I own a lot of journals. There’s a meme going around about writers and unused journals, pens and other paraphernalia and I feel so called out. But really, as an artist and a writer, journals, sketchbooks, markers, pens… all tools of the trade. Many of mine are cheap and utilitarian, but once in a while I splurge to make my heart happy.

I look at this one I found at LTUE and it makes me want to open it up and use it. From the softly flecked recycled pages to the sturdy leather binding it’s a work of art itself. But it was the lead and usable twig pencil that made me pick it up knowing I had no room in my baggage. I tossed some unnecessary things to make it fit.

Sadly, although I made sure to get the dealer’s card, they have very little online presence. You might try contacting them if you really want one, of if you happen to be in UT, look at their lovely wares in person.

Literally an entire shelf of journals and sketchbooks and herbarium pages… not all of them are (ahem) filled up. I’m working on it! But I’ll probably never run out of places to write things, or draw things, or look back and see how far I have come.

24 years later, I don’t write poetry any more. Thank goodness. But I still have the journal!
